Leavenworth County Register of Deeds Partners with Groundbreaking Fraud Prevention Company
Redwood City, CA – With a goal of ending title fraud in Kansas, Leavenworth County Register of Deeds TerriLois Mashburn has signed on as the first official client of groundbreaking fraud prevention company, IdentifID.
IdentifID, a transformative new transaction security company, uses patented technology that links individuals to the transactions they are conducting – not the ID they present.
Renowned fraud prevention advocate Mashburn delivered a compelling speech at the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) 2024 conference in Cleveland OH , highlighting the groundbreaking technology IdentifID as a powerful tool in
the fight against fraud. Mashburn said: “We are conducting meetings with title companies, banks, retailers, real estate brokers, law enforcement agencies, and legislators to explain what a powerful tool is offered by Identifid. I am asking each one of those companies to join a countywide effort to wipe out fraud.”
As Register of Deeds, Mashburn maintains all county land records, such as deeds, mortgages and surveys. With the rapid growth of online transactions and digital interactions, she saw the importance of robust and reliable fraud prevention, security, and loss prevention systems. “After four years of searching, I believe I have discovered a method to actually prevent fraud. I’m proud to be the first government entity in the USA to pioneer this technology.”
The mortgage and title industry faces significant challenges related to fraud and data security. Traditional methods of verifying identities and securing transactions are increasingly vulnerable due to sophisticated fraud techniques. But IdentifID focuses on the individual by adding voluntarily a high-resolution, biometric image to any transaction at the land owner’s request. Fraudsters will walk away rather than lose anonymity.
Mashburn added: “If the land owner, listing agent, title company, mortgage lender, and my office all use this system in concert, fraud might actually be eliminated. I look forward to celebrating that day!”
